Norse Cutting & Abandonment AS (NCA) has signed three major contracts for plug and abandonment and decommissioning work in the North Sea and the Middle East. The contracts with BP in the North Sea, Heerema Marine Contractors in the Netherlands, and a leading oil company in the Middle East have a total value of more than 100 million NOK over three years.
BP has awarded NCA Ltd. a contract for removing 22 wells on the Miller platform. The work includes engineering, planning, and offshore removal work, and will involve the cutting of all casing and conductors at the seabed, pulling, sectioning and laying out the conductors on deck for transport to shore. Engineering has started and offshore work is planned for Q2 2009. The award is considered a recognition of NCA’s strong market position for conductor removal in the North Sea, where NCA has had approximately 95% market share since 2000.
Heerema Marine Contractors has awarded NCA a contract for subsea cutting on the Ekofisk removal project which will involve subsea internal and external cutting of piles and jacket legs, and the offshore work will be carried out in the summer seasons starting in spring 2009. The Ekofisk removal project is currently the largest ongoing decommissioning project in the North Sea.
A leading oil company in the Middle East has awarded NCA a long term contract for the provision of offshore Conductor Slot Recovery Services. The contract includes abandonment of old platform wells and the provision of conductor whipstocks for installation of new wells. The contract is considered a breakthrough for NCA’s establishment in the Middle East, as well as for their Conductor Slot Recovery Services which enables its clients to enhance production from existing fields in a cost efficient way.
All the above contracts will be executed using NCA’s patented and unique cutting and removal equipment.
Carl Lieungh, CEO of NCA, expresses; “These contracts have been actively targeted over several years and it is therefore satisfying to see that we have been able to land these in a competitive market. The contracts are won based on our safety performance and unique cutting technologies, and will add even more strength to our solid position we have established for the growing decommissioning market. It is also satisfying to see that our strategy to use our world-leading removal expertise to also add value to our clients in projects that enhance production and extend the lifetime of their fields is bringing fruits.”
