World Record for the Wellhead Picker

NCA has successfully completed a subsea wellhead recovery operation at 265 meter water depth in the Northern North Sea.

The cutting and recovery operation, which included a net guard and the subsea wellhead, was performed from the subsea contruction vessel Olympic Zeus and marks a new world record for water depth with the Internal Multistring Cutting Tool (IMCT). The cut was made 5 meters below the seabed as per NORSOK guidelines and actual time spent on site was less than 26 hours despite up to 6 meters heave during the operation.

NCA's scope of work on the project was;

  • project management
  • engineering and preparation of work program
  • facilitate hazop
  • mobilisation of vessel, cutting and recovery equipment
  • offshore removal of net guard and subsea wellhead
  • "as left" survey
  • demobilisation
